The 10 Best Laptops of 2017 (up to now)

Laptops aren’t going anywhere. They’ve morphed, they’ve evolved and they’ve adapted—but they’re still around, perhaps as strong as ever. With three significant platforms in macOS, Windows 10 and ChromeOS, the laptop scene really does reach a wide swath of consumers with a variety of different needs in their computer.
Ranging from affordable laptops made for first time buyers and college students to professional-grade Ultrabooks with some serious power, here are the 10 best laptops we’ve seen in 2017 so far:
10. Samsung Chromebook Pro
Screen Shot 2017-10-11 at 11.36.00 AM.png
Designed to be the laptop that replaces your Android tablet, Samsung’s Chromebook Pro will even give more expensive Windows-powered convertibles a run for their money. With support for Android apps on top of Google’s Chrome OS, the Chromebook Pro comes packed with a swiveling 360-degree hinge, allowing the Chromebook to convert to tablet mode. Pen support is also included, which is a perfect complement to Adobe’s Creative Cloud apps for Chromebook.
The Chromebook Pro sports a high resolution QHD screen with the same 3:2 aspect ratio that Microsoft uses on its Surface line. USB-C ports, Intel Core m3 processor and 4K streaming help ensure that your investment in the Chromebook Pro stays future-proof.—Chuong Nguyen
9. Dell XPS 15 Touch

Dell’s XPS line has been among our favorite laptops for years now. This year, Dell launched its 2-in-1 version of the XPS 13, but it lagged behind the XPS 15 Touch in just about every way. This premium Ultrabook has a beautiful touchscreen 4K display, an integrated Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M graphics card and performs excellently with its Core i7 processor.
On the battery side of things, it doesn’t perform as well as the HP ultrabooks below. Aside from that, the XPS 15 Touch is a fantastic laptop that’ll make a great desktop replacement.—Luke Larsen
8. Surface Laptop
Screen Shot 2017-10-11 at 11.28.28 AM.png
In many ways, the Surface Laptop is Microsoft’s version of the MacBook Pro. It’s built from the ground-up by Microsoft and therefore feels like a product that fulfills a unique vision. The Surface Laptop looks very similar to the excellent Surface Pro and is one of the most beautiful laptops out there. It doesn’t quite have the performance punch that a fully-loaded MacBook Pro has, but it comes comes at a comparably discounted price at just $999.
It should be noted that the Surface Laptop comes loaded up with something called Windows 10 S, which has limited functionality in terms of what software you can use on it. However, you can easily upgrade to the full version of Windows 10.—LL
7. Huawei MateBook X
Screen Shot 2017-10-11 at 11.31.59 AM.png
The MateBook X makes for an easy comparison up against the MacBook Pro, most notably for its very similar design. There’s no doubting that the MateBook X takes some generous influence from the MacBook with its unibody aluminum chassis, super-thin and light design, limited port availability (just two USB-C ports and a headphone jack), and fanless cooling system.
It might be a better comparison to the MacBook than the MacBook Pro, but if you’re looking for something that actually looks and feels like a MacBook, look no further.—LL
6. Razer Blade Stealth 4K
Screen Shot 2017-10-11 at 11.30.30 AM.png
While Razer has enjoyed a storied reputation as a manufacturer of some of the most coveted gaming laptops, the Razer Blade Stealth is not entirely a gaming notebook. Part Ultrabook, part modular gaming rig and completely portable, the Razer Blade Stealth is a sleek laptop with high-end internals that closely match other thin-and-light notebooks on the market.
But when it needs to, with the right accessories, it can still go toe-to-toe with gaming laptops from rivals like Dell’s Alienware and MSI.—CN
5. MacBook (2017)
Screen Shot 2017-10-11 at 12.02.52 PM.png
Unlike the old favorite that shared the same name, the 2017 MacBook is not a laptop for everyone. It’s a beautiful design for a laptop—in fact, it just might be one of my favorites of all time. The design is simple, economical, and modern—and from a purely aesthetic perspective, it’s great. From a very practical stance, it again is not for everyone.
The single USB-C port is fine in 90 percent of scenarios, but you’ll undoubtedly get yourself in a situation when you’ll want to charge your laptop and plug in your external hard drive at the same time. Depending on who you are and what your computer usage is like, this could really be a deal breaker. In addition, the amount of performance and raw power you’ll get from the updated Kaby Lake Core m3 processor still won’t be enough for those who want to do things like edit video or run games. In addition, this year’s iteration also get an update to RAM and significantly increased SSD speed. But the primary concern here is still the $1299 pricetag, which puts the limited usage of this laptop in question. Despite the limited audience, it’s hard not to love the singular vision of the MacBook, which Apple continued to improve in 2017.—LL
4. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga
Screen Shot 2017-10-11 at 11.17.10 AM.png
Lenovo maintains its heritage in delighting business users with its ThinkPad brand, and this year’s ThinkPad X1 Yoga doesn’t disappoint. Whether you plan on adopting this convertible for primary use as a laptop or as a tablet, the X1 Yoga comes closest to a no-compromise convertible, offering the best tactile experience for keyboard, stylus or touch input.
A thoughtful design means that stylus input isn’t an afterthought, unlike on competing machines like Microsoft’s Surface Pro, HP’s Spectre x360 and the Surface Book. The built-in recharging pen silo makes it easy to grab the active stylus for note-taking and drawing. For tablet users who prefer working with the touchscreen, Lenovo’s exclusive Wave keyboard adds stability to the keyboard design, making the X1 Yoga equally as comfortable for use as a tablet or as a laptop. As a laptop, the X1 Yoga’s keyboard is unmatched on any convertible and can even induce keyboard envy on even some of the best laptops, Ultrabooks or mobile workstations out there.—CN
3. HP Elitebook x360 G2
Screen Shot 2017-10-11 at 11.24.29 AM.png
If there is a thing such as laptop envy, you’ll definitely know it when you see your office issue your colleagues one of these new beauties. Given the cost of our review configuration, prosumers likely won’t rush out to buy the EliteBook, and that, HP admits, is okay—there’s a Spectre with features that are just as compelling.
If you demand a business warranty, all-day battery life, a durable and beautifully crafted system that delivers speed, security and performance—and you can live without discrete graphics—the EliteBook x360 G2 is unrivaled. Whether you use it as a convertible or a laptop, HP’s winning design makes the EliteBook x360 G2 the business laptop to beat this year, and as such, is worthy of an editor’s choice.—CN
2. Dell XPS 13
Screen Shot 2017-10-11 at 11.34.02 AM.png
Long before Samsung and Apple debuted its “bezel-less” smartphones this year, Dell was paving the way with its impressive near-zero “InfinityEdge” displays. Year after year, Dell continues iterate on its XPS laptops. This year it continues to up the ante—and like its predecessors, the display is the focal point here.
This thing has a stunning 13.3-inch QHD display (3,200 × 1,800 pixels) that’s somehow squeezed into the frame of an 11-inch computer. That alone makes the XPS 13 a computer I always wanting to be using. Throw in a Kaby Lake processor from Intel and a beautifully-thin design and you’ve got one heck of an Ultrabook.—L
1. HP Spectre x360
Screen Shot 2017-10-11 at 11.27.06 AM.png
While the 13-inch Spectre x360 isn’t without peers in both the Ultrabook and convertible computing categories, it’s HP’s convertible that is unrivaled when it comes to value. Apple’s similarly configured MacBook Pro 13-inch with Touch Bar, for example, retails for $1,999 but only comes with half the RAM and no touchscreen, while Dell’s touch-enabled XPS 13 notebook only comes with a QHD+ resolution display and retails for $1,949 when configured with similar options to our Spectre review unit. Neither notebooks come with a 360-degree hinge, so you won’t be able to convert the MacBook or XPS into a tablet on the go.
And if you want a form factor that’s similar to the Spectre x360, going with the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 means you’ll compromise on performance. While the Spectre ships with an Intel 7th Generation Core i7 processor, the XPS 2-in-1 is only available with a more conservative Core M CPU. Lenovo’s Yoga 910 with a 4K panel, 512GB SSD and 16GB of RAM comes in cheaper at $1,349, but you’ll sacrifice some of the Spectre’s versatility given that the Yoga 910 comes with a larger 14-inch screen and lacks Thunderbolt 3 support. And when it comes to ports and expandability, the Spectre x360 wins against Microsoft’s flagship Surface Laptop by a long mile.
Aside from some compromises in battery life that comes with a high resolution 4K display, the 2017 Spectre x360 13-inch is the closest thing we have to laptop nirvana right now. HP’s Midas touch gives us a sturdy unibody metal body with an elegant copper design, robust performance with the latest Intel processor and a keyboard that’s a dream to type on. Add to that the versatility of a convertible hinge, pen support for inking and creative work and future-proof potential with Thunderbolt 3 ports and you have a laptop that you’ll be happy with for years to come.—CN

Hidden Facts That you Don't Know about Volkswagen!!! [Read This]

Volkswagen AG (German) known internationally as

Before Nigerians Get carried away By TSTV!! [see details]

One of the hottest topics among cable TV lovers is the advent of local company, TSTV which has been tipped to break the domination of South African company, Multichoice.

At first, it sounded like a badly-intentioned prank. I mean, how ingenious is a name like TSTV which sounds like a parody of DSTV?  But there is indeed going to be another satellite television company providing direct to home services to Nigerians. TSTV (Telcom Satellite TV) was formally launched on Sunday, October 1, 2017, which was also Nigeria’s Independence Day. Not sure if there was any symbolism intended; you know, like TSTV liberating Nigerian TV viewers? But who is TSTV anyway? In their own words on their website, this is how they describe themselves, “TSTV Africa is a wholly-owned Nigerian innovative pay TV operator.”

As far as arrivals go, TSTV surely arrived in a blaze of glory. Among other things, this wholly -Nigerian company has snagged a three-year tax-free package from the Federal Government as announced by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed at the launch. In return, TSTV is promising, “refined offerings of novel Pay As You View Subscription, Pause Subscription, Complimentary Internet service, video call and an array of amazing TV channels with premium entertainment, informative and educative programmes that cut across all genres.”

Now, as far as expectations go, they are high right at this moment. Not that many people need much convincing to be excited at the arrival of ‘cheap’ (if that’s your thing) or ‘affordable’ or ‘flexible’ satellite TV. Even me, at this point in my household, I could do with a much cheaper subscription. I certainly am paying for more than I need. At the very least, give me something more flexible. Really, almost everyone fits into (or can appreciate) any of these categories. If not directly for themselves, for family members perhaps.

So we can get it out of the way that TSTV does sound very attractive. But before we get too high on expectations, there are a few things we need to unpack. First, let’s look at the marketing of TSTV as this ‘wholly Nigerian’ deliverer Superman company. We’ve been down that road before. The defunct HITV was promoted as being wholly Nigerian. Not only that, it was touted as the redeemer, giant killer. One prominent business newspaper did a front page story on how HITV was coming in to set broadcasting standards. Before it had even existed for a few months! Technically, no matter how promising a business venture looks, especially one in which someone else has a considerable head start, doesn’t it make sense to operate for a while before making gargantuan claims?

In any case at least, HITV now represents a free case study of what can go wrong; there is a lot to pick from. The ill-advised decision to acquire the rights to EPL for starters. For a teeny second, it looked like HITV was somehow going to pull off besting DSTV, their arch Goliath. But its offering by way of content was really thin. The technical and visual output was below what already existed. And yet, this was the company that was going to set new (high) standards for others to follow?

I did try to draw people’s attention to these contradictions but I was accused of supporting foreign-make that South African company-to the detriment of a Nigerian company. Meanwhile, for all intents and purposes, HITV was no NITEL. This was a private business concern. And I was a paying customer. I wasn’t getting it any cheaper because I am a Nigerian. And in the end, I and many others were left holding our antiquated decoders. President Obasanjo and then Information minister, Frank Nweke didn’t come to anyone’s aid.

Now, another minister of information, who just happens to prefer Senegalese jollof rice is whipping up ‘wholly Nigerian’ sentiments. As if all our problems are caused by non-Nigerians. On one hand, we say we want to attract foreign businesses to Nigeria but on the other hand, when it suits us, we get into this mob/herd frenzy. What’s wholly Nigerian anyway? TSTV is partnering with ABS which is very laudable. But ABS is not Nigerian; not even African. How many of TSTV’s equipment which I’m sure are land breaking are made/assembled in Nigeria? If I appear to have taken a special issue with ‘wholly Nigerian,’ do bear with me. You see, it’s only just some days after my family and I barely escaped being deported back to Abia State because we are Igbos. And we are all wholly Nigerians.

Nonetheless TSTV can be marketed on the premise of quality. Not just by words but through action. So why not let your services speak? Speaking of which, I have been going on the TSTV website, and surprisingly, many sections are still being updated. When you click on say ‘Fix A Problem’, TV Guide’’, ‘Contact US,’ the drop downs return empty.

And let’s get my points straight; I’m not against TSTV, or its arrival on the scene. In fact, I welcome TSTV. I welcome the competition. I want to spend as little as possible for the most content which I believe most viewers want. But we must know exactly what we are getting into. So that viewers are not left, again, holding failed decoders. That’ll be the real ‘tearsTV.’

How to know A fake Android App

You want to be safe when it comes to Android apps and not waste your money on things you wouldn't like? Here are ways to spot fake android apps.

Just because an app is in the Google Play Store does not mean that it is a legitimate app. This is because Google is constantly removing fraudulent apps from the Android marketplace, such as fake antivirus, browsers, and games.

Besides Google Play, and other app markets, there are many other ways that fake apps can get onto your Android device. Scammers will try any means necessary to trick you into installing a fake app.

Criminals use emails and SMS messages that appear to be from your bank, credit card company or other brands to trick people into downloading applications that will compromise their data. Sometimes, fake apps will pose as security updates, and clicking on the links may lead to your information being stolen.

According to community.norton.com, if you are an Android user and you receive an unexpected SMS, a strange alert or notification, or unusual requests from what may seem to be your bank or other familiar brand, beware. Criminals may be trying to rip you off.

What can you do to protect yourself?

Unsolicited texts, emails, or sudden notifications that appear to be from a bank, retailer, or other known institution may not always be what they seem. Use caution with any link delivered to you and always read the message first. Instead of using the link supplied in the message, go directly to the website in question and log into your account the way you would normally. If the message seems particularly worrisome, call the company directly to verify the information before acting online.

Also, only download Android apps from official sources, such as the Google Play Store. Before downloading any app, do some research. Check how many times the app has been downloaded.  A wildly popular app is a telltale sign of a good app. Read app reviews, look at the developer, and do a search online. There may be more information coming from other users who have previously been duped. Cybercriminals may try to fool you with fake reviews that are often short and generic, so be sure to check out any other apps made by the developer. The more apps that developer has created, the higher the chance that the developer is the real deal.

Security or software update notifications can be a bit trickier to decipher. Often, users receive a prompt to install an urgent security update. Your best action in this scenario would be to search online to find out information about that update. If there are multiple discussions online about that specific security update, that can confirm if it is genuine.

There are also clear visual things that stick out if you want to identify fake Android apps. Spelling errors, shoddy logos, and unbalanced or poorly formatted interfaces are clues the app may be fake.

Finally, if you want to be completely covered, there are a few options to keep your device safe.

Always remember to think before you click. Even though there may be a sense of urgency to one-click and install, it is better to take the time and remind yourself of all the signs an app may be fake.

An easy protection step everybody should take is to visit your Android settings and make sure you do not allow third-party app downloads from un-trusted sites.

Norton Mobile Security App Advisor for the Google Play Store, which is included in Norton Mobile Security, provides comprehensive, proactive protection from the threats on today’s mobile Internet landscape. The App Advisor allows users to examine the behaviour of an app before actually downloading it to the device. App Advisor scans apps in the Google Play Store looking for features that can invade privacy, display annoying/intrusive behaviour such as pop up ads or excessive battery usage, and unnecessary data usage. It will also detect if an app contains malware or is malicious in nature.

The TSTV terms and conditions. The hidden part you all need to know about it

A new pay TV service TSTV is in town, after launching yesterday, 1st October. Lots of people are already excited on everything about TSTV.
Meanwhile, there are lots of speculations going on how TSTV services would be delivered and particularly many people out there don’t really understand the nature of services that TSTV promises and hence the wrong information been spread across.
Below are the 6 things you should know about TSTV before making purchases;
1. The N5000 for TSTV initial purchase includes a decoder, a dish and a remote control but excludes any installation service charge.
2. TSTV Pay AS You Go pause service i.e. the ability to pause your subscription when not in use would be available to those that would go for the maximum subscription which is the monthly N3,000 package and you would only be able to pause subscription not more than 7 days, thereby allowing you 37 days at most for your monthly subscription. So don’t expect to use your 1 month subscription from January to December in the name of pausing or expect to user 1 day N200 subscription for 1 month.
3.  The first time you buy the decoder is the only time you would be able to enjoy up to 20GB of data as bonus, for subsequent full monthly subscription comes with 10GB of data and not 20GB as some of you might be thinking.
4.  TSTV has incorporated its subscription service payments into Quickteller the popular E-payment service in the country and just like DSTV, you would also be able to easily pay for your TSTV subscriptions through Quickteller.
5.  You would be able to buy extra 1GB data or above from TSTV at the cost of N300 for 1GB
6.  TSTV data allocation has nothing to do with watching of TVST channels but just a separate and additional offer to the entire TSTV concept or better still what you commonly regard as Value Added Service (VAS)
Finally, TSTV having launched, its decoder would be available from next week.

All you need to know about the New Satellite Tstv

As it's well known that the satellite TV called Tstv has finally been launched, here is all you need to know about it.

Tstv is a satellite platforms which is similar to the very popular Dstv you know, but tstv is different, its pay per view decoder, were you only pay per as you watch any channel on it.

The subscription fee is very flexible and it ranges from N200,  N500, N1000, N1500 and N3000.

And with Tstv, you don't need to pay subscription monthly or periodically, you pay as you consume any channel on it.

Tstv Nigeria is a joint venture owned by ABS and Telcom satellite Tv, tstv signals will be distributed on the ABS 3A africa beam, located at 3 degrees west.

Don’t confuse yourself,  the journey of TSTv didn’t begin 2017, this company has a longer history.
In the year 2006, ABS successfully concluded the acquisition of the Lockheed Martin Intersputnik-1 (LMI-1) satellite which was promptly renamed ABS-1 satellite.
This was followed in the year 2010, with the announcement of the successful acquisition of ABS from Citi Venture Capital International and Asia Debt Management by Permira funds and the ABS management team .
In Nigeria, ABS is trading with the name TSTV, but operates under the company name TELCOM SATELLITES LIMITED.
Now it gets more confusing right?
Here is it, TELCOM SATELLITES is registered under the Companies and Allied Matters Act, Laws of Nigeria. The company‘s current and planned activities extend throughout Nigeria and would be expanding to other African countries.
Since ABS owns TSTV, who owns ABS?
This is one smart question, at least ABS didn’t just drop from the skies.
ABS is majority owned by the Permira funds which are advised by European Private Equity firm Permira.
ABS is led by a management team of talented and experienced professionals, and offers a complete range of End-to-End solutions including Direct to Home (DTH), Cable TV distribution (CATV), Cellular Backhaul, VSAT and Internet Backbone services with diverse IP transit through its European, Middle East and Asian internet gateways.

Let's support our very very own....

Apple Confirms Technological Fault in iPhone 8

Customers of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus have complained about a recurring crackling sound from the earpiece of the expensive smartphone.

The iPhone 8 may come with some of the most advanced tech in the industry, but one of its simplest components is failing for some users.

Several owners are reporting a high-pitched crackling or static sound emitting from the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus’ earpiece during a phone call. The complaints are spread across forums, Apple support pages, and social media, and they don’t appear to be affecting users in a specific region. In fact, users confirmed the issue is happening across multiple mobile carriers both in the U.S. and internationally.

MacRumors user “vask” first posted about the issue on Sept. 22, the iPhone 8’s release day.

Is anyone else experiencing a crackling static noise from the earpiece during facetime or cellular calls? Strange thing is this noise happens randomly, roughly 1 in 3 calls. This is happening on iphone 8 plus.

The crackling can be heard during regular phone call and FaceTime calls. It seems to go away when the earpiece is put into speaker mode.

Apple acknowledged the problem in a statement to the Verge, claiming there are only a “small number” of users affected. A spokesperson assured the company would work on a fix and include it in an upcoming software update.“Our team is at work on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming software release,” the spokesperson said.

That should be a huge relief for iPhone users since an issue of this nature typically means unfixable hardware failure. But it’s curious why all iOS 11-powered iPhone 8s aren’t affected.

If you’re an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus owner, you have a few options. You can either return your device to an Apple store for a replacement or patiently wait as the Cupertino giant frantically searches for a cure.

As Tom’s Guide points out, Apple released iOS 11.0.1 on Sept. 26, but reports of the popping sound continue to flood discussion pages.

DSTV In big Trouble As TSTV Takes Center Stage On 1st October, Offer Pay-As-Go Subscription

No wonder DSTV came up with a pay as you go idea few days ago which haven’t been implemented anyway. They are seriously in trouble because indigenous company is about the blow their business away. TSTV is the latest in town guys and they are set to launch on 1st October, 2017 which is Nigeria Independence Day..lol, Coincidence? Not at all.

Unlike DSTV that is a purely satellite TV provider, TSTV is HBB technology that combines both satellite and internet service for TV services. Also TSTV services will be mainly on Pay As You Go basis, thereby offering subscribers loads of their favourite TV channels at cheapest rate, and which by the time it launches, it will be creating serious competition between them and DSTV.

They have lots of entertaining and amazing channels and also News channels plus they are gona be showing top soccer leagues like EPL, La liga and Champions league. Hmmm, their sports channels is da bomb guys and I can’t wait to get my hands on one their HD decoders. In addition, it even supports iptv.

It is worthy to note that the subscription charges are truly at giveaway price when compared with DSTV, for the TSTV decoder set will be going for N5000, while maximum subscription is N3000 monthly, with N1500, N1000, N500 and even N200 offers available.
